it's no secret the boomers have a huge impact on society - politically, socially, economically. those in the boomer demographic group that managed to establish security and financial independence have little to worry about - pull a few strings and voila, that friend from college knows a doctor or holistic therapist who can straighten out health problems, or at least point in the right direction.

but it also posed the question of what's going to happen to the rest of society when the boomer group shrinks? they are the reason why service industries (financial, caregiving, healthcare, hospitality) have experienced such tremendous growth in the past few decades. when the boomers pass on, where will the customer base for such industries be coming from? will this mean a shift in focus back to consumer product and research sectors in the decades to come? how big will the government's role be? it'll be interesting to see how this pans out over time.
